A Weekend With My Sister

Hi! It’s Jilly. This last weekend my sister came to visit. I hadn’t seen her in over THREE years!! It’s crazy how life gets in the way sometimes. We text each other and talk on the phone a lot, so it wasn’t like we had a lot of catching up to do. But, it was awesome to be together and hang out in the same place!!

She lives in NYC right now, and we live upstate, so she was able to catch a red-eye bus from the city. She arrived just before 3 am Saturday morning. I don’t usually drive around at that time of night/early morning, but there are some weird, sketchy people out that late! Yikes! I made sure our car doors were locked as we drove through downtown!

When the kids woke up and saw her they were SO excited! They couldn’t wait to show her all their toys, and requested piggy-back rides hourly.

On Saturday afternoon we decided to go to the children’s discovery center. The kids love it there. My sister thought it was pretty awesome, too. They have it set up like a little town, with a grocery store, firehouse, ER, news station, dentist’s office, Chinese restaurant, etc. Lizzy thinks every town should have a children’s museum like that, and I agree.

Outside the discovery center they have a Story Garden. It is SO charming! I love it! They have little houses and things representing different children’s stories, like a “mine” from Snow White, the Three Bears’ house, a Peter Rabbit garden, and the Magic Treehouse. I have decided that I want a storybook garden when we have a house of our own again. By the time we can afford something like that it will probably have to be for the grandkids to enjoy, though. Stupid student loans…

I’m SO glad my sister was able to come to visit, even if it was only for a couple of days. She is a joy and strength to me. Even though we are 10 years apart, we get along so well and always seem to know the perfect thing to say to each other when we are feeling down, or are worried about something, or are excited! Love you, Lizzy!! Thanks for sleeping on my couch!
